Jeanne G. Holzgrefe, M.D. Ph.D.
Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist
Jeanne G. Holzgrefe, M.D. Ph.D., is board certified in both Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Adult Psychiatry. As a physician and a psychodynamic psychiatrist, Dr. Holzgrefe understands people and their problems based on both neurobiologic underpinnings and a psychodynamic perspective of the mind, that is, that the ways people think, make decisions, and relate to others are very influenced by currents within us that are both inside of and outside of our awareness. Therapy is a collaborative exploration of important aspects of one’s past and present in order to develop alternative coping mechanisms and strategies for growth to relieve suffering, foster healthy relationships, and attain one’s personal goals. Fundamental to therapy is establishing a trusting, safe environment, in which the patient feels understood and supported, but also appropriately challenged.
Drawing upon her many years of clinical experience as well as on her intensive training in various therapeutic modalities, Dr. Holzgrefe provides each patient, family, or couple with an individualized treatment program to help achieve the goals of treatment. Treatment modalities may include cognitive behavioral and problem-solving techniques, motivational interviewing, mindfulness techniques, and psychoanalytic approaches to provide deeper inquiry into underlying causes of psychological issues and a strategy to address those issues. Medication may be included as a valuable part of a comprehensive treatment program.
Dr. Holzgrefe has extensive experience in treating patients with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, developmental and learning issues, LGBTQ issues, eating disorders, relationship issues, adoption, transitions in life, as well as couple and family issues.
